Full branding for a delicatessen
Gene’s Sausage Shop opened its doors in 1972. 2009 marked their 37th anniversary and a new beginning with a second location in the heart of Lincoln Square, which also happens to be our neighborhood! With over 40 varieties of handmade sausages made fresh on-site daily, this gourmet European market and deli has become known and loved by Chicagoans near and far. Our involvement included rebranding the new location with a new identity system, website, apparel, signage, packaging, vehicle wrap and print ads.
Because Gene’s had been operating for 50 years, we wanted to keep the integrity of the brand and build upon it. The original location was known for having a fiberglass cow, which inspired the idea behind the new logo. We used the original Gene’s lettering from 1972 and put it inside the silhouette of a cow, creating a new icon that feels familiar. Taking inspiration from old world markets and European aesthetics, we designed their brand to feel nostalgic but current with personality injected throughout every touchpoint.
